You have to memorise a lot of things like openings and checkmates, and you usually lose after 1 mistake due to the fact that there are few strategies that you can develop. Chess is hard to play because you lose after 1 mistake, you develop at most 2 winning strategies, and you often have to rely on memory to win. It is hard to know how good you are. You have to win against a grandmaster to become one, but it is difficult to reach them. To get a rating you have to play official tournaments.
